Back-To-School Night - Typically held in the second or third week of school. Parents are invited to visit classrooms and to hear an orientation lecture from the teachers. Parents are encouraged to leave their children at home to allow for fewer interruptions. Ice Skating Party - The Ice Skate party is an annual event held at the Winter Lodge on Middlefield Road in February or March. Hot dogs, salad bar, and dessert are served for a small price. Ice-skating is optional, having fun is mandatory. Teachers can always be found skating with students past and present. Babies in strollers on ice are a common sight. Pancake Breakfast - The Pancake Breakfast is held in March in the MP room. You can usually find the principal flipping a few pancakes, too! Family BBQ - The Family Barbeque is held in early June to wrap-up the school year with a large family oriented gathering. Hot dogs and hamburgers are the typical fare. A potluck Salad bar and 5th Grade bake sale are usual attractions. Gym Lab - PTA provides materials and volunteer staff for a perceptual motor program for the Kindergarten students. Halloween - On Halloween or the school day preceding it, Fairmeadow/JHC has a costume parade. Parents, siblings and kindergartners are invited to participate. Halloween Haunted House/Harvest Fair - The annual haunted house is set up in the MP room for all to enjoy. On the playground there are fun activities for the whole family to enjoy. Human Relations - PTA organizes a parent/staff committee that focuses on the areas of self-esteem, discipline, and parent education. Library - PTA coordinates a staff of volunteers to assist the librarian with shelving and checking out books. Math/Science Lab - Volunteers are scheduled for this hands-on approach to Math and Science. The PTA purchases additional materials. New Families -Welcomes new Fairmeadow families to school and the Palo Alto area, and facilitates their integration into the school community. Noon Supervisors Program - 5th grade student volunteers, trained by parents, assist and monitor primary classes during the lunch period each day. An end-of-the-year party is funded for these students. Parent Education - Programs and meetings are provided to improve parenting skills and enhance communication within the school community. Red Ribbon Week - Funds and materials are provided to increase awareness of anti-drug campaign. Room Parents - Fairmeadow room parents assist the teacher by helping to coordinate special class activities and parties. School Board Observer - Volunteers represent Fairmeadow parents at the Palo Alto Council of PTAs, Community Advisory Committee, Board of Education, and with our elected representatives to advocate for our children's education and safety. Service Awards - Staff and parents are recognized with honorary service awards at the end of the school year. Spelling Bee - Prizes are awarded to the winners of this contest. Spring Carnival - An annual event usually held in April, it's a fun-filled afternoon for all. Carnival games, a silent auction, international foods and much more are in store for the whole family. Spirit Sales - The PTA provides for sales of T-shirts and sweatshirts with the school logo to promote school spirit. Teacher Appreciation - The PTA coordinates various events to recognize the diligence of the Fairmeadow teachers and staff. Traffic Patrol - 5th grade student volunteers work under the direction of a teacher. These students are responsible for raising the flags, helping students cross at the East Meadow light, managing the bicycle racks, escorting the Kindergartners to the buses, and assisting at special school events. An end-of-the-year party for these student volunteers is funded. Traffic Safety - A team of parents and staff works with the City of Palo Alto to manage the flow of cars, pedestrians, and bicycles into the school. Trophies - Trophies are provided for academic and sports achievements. Volunteer Coordinators - PTA board members coordinate room parents and other school volunteers. |
