Scrip is a paper certificate or gift card that you
buy at face value from the Fairmeadow PTA
(Parent-Teacher Association) and use like cash when you shop at
participating stores.
How does Scrip help Fairmeadow raise money?
The PTA purchases scrip certificates and gift cards at a discount
(from 4% to 20%) from various stores and restaurants. We then
sell the scrip to you at face value. This earns money for the
PTA without costing you any extra money. Every $100 you purchase
brings the PTA from $4 to $20.
Does it cost me anything extra to use Scrip?
No! You buy the scrip for its face value – you're
just trading your cash or check for the scrip. Then you use the
scrip like cash at the store or restaurant.
Are there any restrictions on the use of Scrip at stores and
restaurants?
No. And there is no expiration date, either.
Will I receive change back when I use Scrip?
For paper certificates, yes—you must spend at least 50%
of the certificate's value. You will not get change from
a gift card—the card will be reduced in value by the
amount of your purchase.
What if I lose my Scrip?
Scrip is a cash equivalent, which means it cannot be replaced
if lost or stolen.
How much does the PTA earn through people buying Scrip?
Last school year (2002-03), 75 people purchased scrip on an occasional
or regular basis, earning over $5,200 to help support teaching
and learning at Fairmeadow. This year our fundraising needs
have grown (due to statewide and district budget cuts, and
changes in district fundraising policies), so we've set
our sights higher: Help us earn at least $7,000 this year!
Why should I place a standing order for regular home delivery
of Scrip?
It's more convenient for you (the Scrip comes to your door
automatically once or twice a month), and it helps us ensure
a steady level of support for the school. A typical standing
order might be $200 of Piazza Scrip, twice a month or monthly.
Some of our customers order significantly more than this. You
can modify or cancel a standing order at any time—just
call or send us an email.
What's the difference between "regular
inventory" and "special
pre-orders"?
Regular inventory is the "short list" of Scrip that
we carry year-'round and can deliver to you within a few
days (see the form). Special
pre-orders will offer a "long list" of scrip for
merchants across the country—whatever
is available through National Scrip. (On the web at: http://www.nationalscripcenter.com/
)
Special pre-orders will be offered a few times during the year
(especially around holidays and other gift-giving times), and
will have announced deadlines and a two-week delivery turnaround.
Can my friends and neighbors buy scrip from Fairmeadow?
Yes! Anyone can order scrip—the more the merrier!
